Wolves say good bye to McCarthy

Mick McCarthy has become the latest Premier League manager to leave his post this season. He was sacked by Wolves following Sunday's 5-1 home thrashing by Midlands rivals West Brom. McCarthy has been in charge at Molineux since July 2006 but Wolves (3/1 to Finish Bottom) have won only one of their last 13 matches and picked up just 14 points in their last 22 Premier League matches.

They began the season brightly by taking seven points from their opening three

games, but a 2-0 home defeat by Tottenham triggered an alarming slide. They have not kept a clean sheet since August's draw with Aston Villa.

Wolves currently sit in 18th place just inside the relegation zone on 21 points. They are there by virtue of goal difference from Blackburn Rovers and QPR (11/10 to be relegated).  But will a change in management breath live into their season just as it has for Sunderland (20/1 Top 6 Finish) who appointed Martin O’Neill in place of the sacked Steve Bruce after they were left hovering around the relegation zone following a run of two wins in 14 Premier League games.

Steve Bruce, who was sacked in November, was the first managerial casualty since the start of the season and he is now one of the favourites to take charge at Molineux (5/1 Next Permanent Wolves Manager). The list of potential candidates contains all the usual suspects but one thing is certain Wolves will need to make an appointment quickly if they are to stave off the very real threat of relegation.
