Boxing has got a bad name

I woke up on Sunday morning expecting to read about a comprehensive Vitali Klitschko win over Dereck Chisora, instead I found not one, but two pieces of surprising news.

The first was that Chisora had actually given a good account of himself inside the ring, taken the champ the distance, and lost on points.

However all that was overshadowed by the second piece of news, namely that Chisora and David Haye had been involved in a serious clash at the post fight press conference.

Chisora's actions in the ring have now, quite rightly been long forgotten, as he has disgraced himself, British boxing and boxing in general. Haye is no better, and questions must be asked as to why he was allowed in the press conference in the first place, when clearly his only motive was to cause trouble.

The only question to have come out of this is who is the bigger idiot between Haye and Chisora. Other than that, everything is crystal

clear, and a suitable punishment would see the pair stripped of their boxing licences indefinitely.

Thankfully, the Klitschko brothers maintained their dignity in the face of an embarrassing tirade by Haye who, despite performing weakly against Wladimir last year, feels he is in with a shout of a fight against the brothers once again.

Haye is a limited fighter who's primary asset is his big mouth. In any other era he wouldn't even get near a title shot, yet such is the dearth of quality heavyweight fighters right now, Haye has risen near to the elite.

However as a character he's a disgrace to boxing, and a disgrace to the great champions of the past, such as Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier and George Foreman.

Unfortunately, in 2012, we have nobody with the talent to even come close to some of those guys.

Point taken re the fight, I'm only writing on what I saw of the press conference, which was one of the most embarrassing things I've seen in a long time.

Still though, what it has done is create a huge amount of Hype for a potential Haye - Chisora bout which will now surely happen...if they're not banned from boxing, that is.

You'd easily know you didn't watch the fight, the Klitschko's may have not gotten involved at the press conference but when there was handbags in the ring after the fight it was all Vladimir and not his brother who had actually been in the fight. He was obviously trying to engineer a handy defence of his world title for himself seen as he's been reduced to fighting no marks like Jean-Marc Mormeck. I do agree with you about Haye though, hopefully Chisora and Haye can be cell buddies in Munich for a few months might teach them to keep their mouth shut.
