Irish racing moves to a wet and drizzly Punchestown today with the first of seven races due off to post at 2 o clock. The current going is soft to heavy, soft in places.

Five go to post in the opening Festival Free Upgrade Offer Ends Today Hurdle and no doubt the 2008 Cheltenham Champion Bumper Cousin Vinny will be the warm favourite. Despite an absence of 672 days Cousin Vinny will take all the beating under Ruby Walsh but Dessie Hughes Tofino Bay shouldn’t be ruled out having finished second behind Stephanie Kate last week at Clonmel. Sabrina Harty’s Won In The Dark shouldn’t be ignored whilst See U Bob and Major Finnegan make

up the five runner field.

Eight runners are declared for the Festival Any Day Flexi – Ticket Hurdle and the Willie Mullins trained Maggie Connolly is likely to go off favourite. Tony Martin’s Psycho could provide the danger whilst Willie Mullins other runner Pozyc shouldn’t be ignored. It is also interesting to note that The Bishop Looney reverts back to hurdles and could be the dark horse outsider of the pack.

The Festival Party Pack from €19 Maiden Hurdle looks set to be a dual between Charles O’Brien’s Double Double who was recently disqualified at Leopardstown and the Conor O’Dwyer trained Competitive Edge who finished fourth to Aupcharlie last time out. Dessie Hughes Zerashan may improve and is worth a second look.

The Punchestown.com For Festival Offers Mares Maiden Hurdle could see the unfortunate Thynetocatcher break her hurdling duck. Having travelled well last time out at Limerick, she was very unfortunate to have been brought down five out. Colin Bowe’s Tango Moll looks a solid each way bet.

Big Jemmy has run a good few consistent races and looks an each way bet in the Hen Party Heaven At The Festival Handicap Hurdle for trainer John J Walsh and jockey Philip Enright. Recent Down Royal winner Followmeuptocarlow and Dr Proctor look dangerous.

The AES Family Saturday at the Festival Flat Race looks a wide open content. Noel Meade’s newcomer Ange Blanc will probably head the betting but Jessica Harrington’s Directors Forum should be given a second chance and is worth an each way bet.

The concluding Goffs Punchestown Invitational Sale Flat Race sees Gordon Elliott’s Tinahely point to point winner In The Binyanis make his racecourse debut. Angles Hill looks an interesting each way bet.

Cheltenham is only 20 days away so check out our Ante Post Cheltenham betting and Cheltenham Specials.
