Kilbeggan host a seven race card on Saturday evening with the first race due off at 5:25 at the county Westmeath track.

The opening Tullamore Maiden Hurdle has only attracted eight runners and it is likely that White Feathers who finished second at the track last week will go off favourite but slight preference is for Suspect Device looks a solid each way bet for Paul Flynn and Mick Darcy.

Supreme Carolina looks the one to beat in the Kinnegad Maiden Hurdle for

Punchestown Day One Preview and Selections

Tuesday, 24 April 2012 09:31

Punchestown hosts the opening day of its 2012 Festival with the first race due off to post at 3:40pm. Despite the horrible weather, thousands are expected to flock to the county Kildare venue over the coming days and the festival is expected to generate over €60 million to the local area.

The opening Kildare Hunt Club Fr Sean Breen Memorial Steeplechase for the Ladies Perpetual Cup has attracted eighteen runners to tackle the cross country course. Boxer Georg was unlucky at Aintree after making an early mistake and stayed on too late to finish eight but looks to have a lively chance under Patrick Mullins today. Enda Bolger is no

Cork Preview and Selections

Monday, 23 April 2012 09:00

Cork Racecourse hosts a seven race National Hunt card this evening with the first race off to post at 5:20 at the Mallow track.

The opening Follow Cork On Facebook Mares Maiden Hurdle see twenty four runners go to post and it is likely that Supreme Carolina may go off favourite for Willie Mullins and Ruby Walsh. Carrigeen Kariega looks to have a lively chance as well as the Michael Moran trained Ennisnag who will be ridden by Mick Darcy.

Cyprusormilan ran a decent race last time out at Gowran Park for trainer Jimmy Mangan and with his son Paddy taking five pounds off today he looks a solid each way bet in the Friday Evening Racing Maiden Hurdle. Dara Tango and Casimir Road look the possible dangers.

The Follow Us On Twitter Handicap Hurdle looks a very completive handicap and recent winner Saint Gervais looks set to run another big race for trainer John Kiely and jockey Andrew McNamara. Concrete And Clay ran a nice race at Leopardstown last time out to finish a close fourth and may be one to watch in the betting. Matthew Bowes claims a valuable five pounds of his back.

The maximum field of 24 runners go to post for the Fathers Day June 17th Handicap Hurdle and it looks a very competitive field on paper. Recent course winner Doctor Henry looks a solid each way bet for Kieran Purcell and Tom Doyle whilst One In A Milan and Clashnabrook look like possible contenders.

The www.corkracecourse.ie Flat Race looks a tricky contest. Willie Mullins is represented with Peking To Paris who was a bit disappointing at Naas last time out whilst Noel Meade saddles Johannisberger who was last seen finishing fourth in the Goffs Bumper at the Punchestown Festival last year. Mallowney steps back to Bumper Company and could run another big race for trainer Timothy Doyle.

Henry De Bromhead’s Byerley Bear has ran bad on his last two starts but if he comes back to his form at Punchestown last November he will run another big race under Andrew Lynch. American Job and Gimli’s Rock look the dangers.

The concluding Munster Handicap Steeplechase looks a wide open contest and a chance may be taken with the Philip Rothwell trained In The Haven.

Don’t forget Punchestown starts tomorrow and we will have our regular Happy Hour and a very special Davy Russell Cash Back.

Cheltenham Day One Preview

Monday, 12 March 2012 13:36

After so many nights of sleep, Tuesday will be the best day of the year so far for me as I will be hearing the roar at Prestbury Park as the stampede of horses takes their chances in the opening race of Cheltenham 2012, The Supreme Novice Hurdle.

19 runners will go to post in the opening Supreme Novices Hurdle that could see the Irish get off to a great start. Word all around the country and over here at Prestbury Park is that Jessica Harrington’s Steps To freedom is in tremendous form and will take all the beating. Dermot Weld’s Galileo’s Choice also holds a strong chance whilst Willie Mullins Midnight Game shouldn’t be ignored either. The main home

Downpatrick Quick Tips

Wednesday, 07 March 2012 13:54

2:15        Leighinmohr – can give Ben Dalton another winner.

2:45        Charlie’s Vic – She should justify her very short odds.

3:15        Oscar Hill – Ran a nice race when third last time out, should be enough in a weak looking contest.

3:45        Up The Girls – Should go one better than Punchestown.

4:15        Dizzy Rascal – You would be bonkers to ignore him today around a track he loves.

4:45        Spring Lane – Won’t take much to improve from his second at Catterick last week.

Leopardstown Preview and Selections

Saturday, 03 March 2012 22:08

Leopardstown hosts it final National Hunt meeting of the season on Sunday with the first of seven races due off to post at 2:00. Many of the Cheltenham horses will also have a gallop after racing as a final prep for the Cheltenham Festival.

Thurles Preview and Selections

Thursday, 01 March 2012 11:28

Thurles host a seven race National Hunt card on this fresh Thursday with the first race due off to post at 2:25. The feature race on the card is the Grade Two Michael Purcell Memorial Novice Hurdle with six runners going to post.

The opening Steeplechase for five year olds and upwards has only attracted five runners and Willie Mullins is represented by two runners. Ruby takes the ride on Tango Banbou whilst Willie’s son Patrick takes the ride on Shakervilz but the main danger looks to be the Jessica Harrington trained Saludos with Robbie “Puppy” Power booked to ride.

Dare To Doubt will go off the short priced favourite for the Mares Beginners Steeplechase and looks the horse to beat despite having a few frustrating runs at the Thurles track. Ruby Walsh takes the ride and the each way value in the race looks to be Feisty Lass who will have no bother with the obstacles after she won her point to point at Ballinaboola in January.

The Ballycahill Beginners Steeplechase looks an open contest and will see the Mouse Morris trained Big Game Hunter go off favourite but danger will come from the John J Walsh trained

Punchestown Preview and Selections

Wednesday, 22 February 2012 12:04

Irish racing moves to a wet and drizzly Punchestown today with the first of seven races due off to post at 2 o clock. The current going is soft to heavy, soft in places.

Five go to post in the opening Festival Free Upgrade Offer Ends Today Hurdle and no doubt the 2008 Cheltenham Champion Bumper Cousin Vinny will be the warm favourite. Despite an absence of 672 days Cousin Vinny will take all the beating under Ruby Walsh but Dessie Hughes Tofino Bay shouldn’t be ruled out having finished second behind Stephanie Kate last week at Clonmel. Sabrina Harty’s Won In The Dark shouldn’t be ignored whilst See U Bob and Major Finnegan make

Navan Preview and Selections

Saturday, 18 February 2012 20:26

Irish racing heads to Meath on Sunday with three Grade Two’s taking place at Navan racecourse. The first of seven races goes to post at 1:50 at the Proudstown track.

The opening Follow Navan On Facebook Maiden Hurdle could see the Willie Mullins trained Tennis Cap finally break his duck over hurdles however slight preference is for Hawk Flight who was third over the course and distance to Terminal and second to Burn And Turn at Leopardstown last time out. David Casey is booked to ride.

The Boyne Hurdle has attracted eight runners and yet again the betting will be dominated by the Willie Mullins pair of
