Clonmel Preview and Selections

Thursday, 10 May 2012 09:13

Clonmel host a seven race mixed card this evening with the first of seven races due off to post at 5:40 at the county Tipperary venue.

The opening Clonmel Hospice Support Group Maiden looks a very competitive contest. Some decent dual purpose horses use this race as a prep race for national hunt as it is run over two miles. Rebel Fitz finished a close fourth

Rooney makes Chester Debut

Wednesday, 09 May 2012 09:56
Wayne Rooney gets his first taste of racehorse ownership when Pippy (1:35 Chester Betting) makes his racecourse debut at Chester in the first race of the StanJames.com sponsored Chester Cup card. The England international striker and his wife, Coleen, purchased three horses to be trained by Tom Dascombe, who is based at Manor House Stables in Cheshire, a yard part-owned by Rooney's Manchester United colleague Michael Owen.

The trainer said: "Pippy is fine. He's quite a nice little horse, but we're obviously throwing him in at the deep end. We couldn't be sure Pippy would get in the maiden later in the week, so we'll try him in the Lily Agnes and see what happens. The draw is obviously all important and he isn't drawn badly (stall five). He'll be doing his best and if he doesn't win, I'm sure he'll win a maiden in the not too distant future."

Rooney and his Manchester United teammates (6/1 to win Premier League) are frequent racegoers at Chester's May meeting and he will not have to wait long for his second runner as Tomway has been declared to run in Thursday's five-furlong maiden.

Dascombe, who has won the July Stakes, added “Tomway is drawn 11, which is an absolutely shocking draw and he'll probably struggle from there. But again, whatever happens this week, hopefully it will just be a matter of time before he wins his race.”

Liverpool V Chelsea Preview 8th May 2012

Tuesday, 08 May 2012 14:21
Liverpool defender Daniel Agger says he is still disappointed at losing out on the FA Cup to Chelsea, but is targeting wins in the club's final two Premier League games. (Liverpool 5/4 to beat Chelsea tonight).

The Blues beat Liverpool 2-1 at Wembley last Saturday, and they repeat the fixture tonight in the Premier League clash. Agger said: "There isn't much to say at the moment, we are all just so disappointed. We have two games left and we have got to try and win them, this is how we will start to move forward."

The Denmark international believes Liverpool are showing great signs of progression, despite having a poor performance in the league this season and missing out on FA Cup victory. He added: "When you get into an FA Cup final, obviously you really want to win it, nobody likes to be a loser. Can we challenge the top teams next season? Yes, of course we can, we have moved forward a lot this season, but right now we still feel disappointment." (Chelsea 11/5 to beat Liverpool tonight).

Roberto Di Matteo's Chelsea have had a fantastic season since he took up the reigns following Andre Villas- Boas' departure, and will be refusing to give up hope of finishing in the top-four this season. The Blues dreams of finishing third or fourth took a knock after suffering defeat last Wednesday to an in-form Newcastle, which left them four points adrift.

Chelsea will travel to Anfield without their number one goalkeeper Petr Cech though, who is being rested by interim manager Di Matteo, and will be replaced by reserve keeper Ross Turnball. (Liverpool 9/4 to draw with Chelsea tonight).

No doubt Liverpool will be out to get revenge on Chelsea after defeat in last Saturday's FA Cup Final at Wembley.

Kilbeggan Preview and Selections

Friday, 04 May 2012 14:03

Kilbeggan hosts it first meeting off 2012 with the first of seven races due off to post at 5:20 at the county Westmeath track.

The opening Kilbeggan Maiden Hurdle sees ten runners go to post. Gordon Elliott is represented with Cause Of Causes and after a nice second at Downpatrick he probably will head the market. Paul Flynn saddles Suspect Device who was formerly trained on the flat by Ger Lyons and he ran well enough in the same race as Cause Of Causes to enter the equations. Mick Darcy is booked to ride.

Ruby Walsh teams up with his boss Willie Mullins to saddle Sin Palo in the Follow Kilbeggan On Facebook Maiden Hurdle but slight preference is for Chasing Shadows who is trained by Dessie Hughes. The Kildare trainer has an excellent strike rate around Kilbeggan and Bryan Cooper is booked to ride the six year old filly.

Oliver Brady saddles Imperial Shabra in the Moate Handicap Hurdle and the Monaghan trainer will have him primed for this wide open race. Ger Fox claims a valuable seven pounds off his back and he should be in the shake up. The main dangers look to be Masked Phantom and Michael Hourigan’s Cloughmile.

Turnonthegas was one of the horses that provided Paul Carberry with a four timer at Ballinrobe on Tuesday evening and he makes a quick reappearance in the Greville Arms Hotel Handicap Hurdle. John Carr’s nine year old can go close again with I Never Knew That who also won at Ballinrobe on Tuesday looking the possible danger.

Banjaxed Girl ran a cracker last time out at Fairyhouse to finish second and she will take all the beating in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Funds Mares Beginners Steeplechase. Dessie Hughes saddles Definite Class and with two placed efforts at Thurles on her last two starts she is another one to consider. Mayo Mystique looks a solid each way bet for Philip Rothwell and jockey Declan Bates having finished second last time out.

Doctor Woodfield has a good chance of following up his Limerick win in the Sean Hughes Memorial Mullingar Park Hotel Handicap Steeplechase but slight preference is for Streamtown who chased Dun Masc home last time out at Downpatrick and Paul Carberry is a notable booking.

Willie Mullins introduces newcomer Zuzka in the concluding Loughnagore Flat Race with his son Patrick booked to ride. No doubt the Mullins newcomer will be well schooled and ready to race. Eoin Griffin’s Fairview Star looks the danger whilst Noel Meade’s Wall Street Wally may also make the frame under Nina Carberry.

Kilbeggan Selections

5:20 Suspect Device each way

5:55 Chasing Shadows each way

6:25 Imperial Shabra each way

6:55 Turnonthegas

7:25 Mayo Mystique each way

7:55 Streamtown each way

El Nino Cashback - FA Cup Offer

Thursday, 03 May 2012 16:37

The prestigious FA Cup Final takes place this weekend at Wembley and Ireland's best bookmakers can't help but give you cashback & value! If Torres scores the last goal in the FA Cup Final we will refund our usual markets! Can El Nino return to haunt his former club?

Chelsea v Liverpool - FA Cup Final live on ITV/ESPN Sat 5 May 17:15

Two of England's biggest club sides lock-horns in this season FA Cup Final in what could be a classic. These teams have given us some epic games over the past 7 years with Champions League clashes & an FA Cup Semi not to mention the Premier League games. Chelsea have had 2 good cups runs so far and with 2 finals in as many weeks they will want to start as the mean to go on before their Champions League Final. With a top 4 finish looking more unlikely after a home defeat to Newcastle, a cup double would more than make up for a poor league campaign. The Reds are looking for a cup double themselves with a third appearance under the new arch and with the league cup already in the bag, an FA Cup could take the heat of Dalglish after they have also had a poor season in the league. Fernando Torres could have hit form at the right time after booking the CL Final with a well taken goal and bagging a nice hat-trick against QPR at the weekend so we thought why not offer a great Cashback Offer on El Nino himself to get one over his former team mates. If Torres scores the last goal of the game we will refund all losing First/Last Goalscorers, Correct Score and Scorecast bets on that match. You wont find better value this weekend anywhere else.

Punchestown Day Three Preview and Selections

Thursday, 26 April 2012 14:24

Punchestown has gotten the go ahead after an 8am inspection and will host a five race card with the first race due of to post at 4:50 at the wet Kildare track.

The opening Stephens Green Hibernian Club Hurdle sees David Pipe send over his horse The Tracey Shuffle and judging by the movement in the market he is well fancied. Tom Scudamore takes the ride. Dessie Hughes Tofino Bay looks the main danger with Davy Russell in the saddle for owners Gigginstown House Stud.

The La Touche Cup is always an excellent spectacular to watch over the Punchestown banks and it looks a very competitive race. Uncle Junior who won around the Cheltenham Cross Country course last November looks the one to beat. Tally Em Up has gotten around the course before and finished a nice fifth in the Cross Country at the Cheltenham Festival and it would be great if she could win as the legendary RTE horse racing broadcaster Colm Murray holds a share in the horse.

The feature World Hurdle will see two of Europe’s top mares battle it out for the valuable prize. The lightly raced Quevega is set to go off favourite and will bid to win the race for the third year running but she will have it up to her as Colm Murphy’s mare Voler La Vedette will relish the bottomless conditions and bid to overturn Quevega’s crown. Other interesting runners include Berties Dream, Mourad and Mikael D’Haguenet.

The Naas Court Hotel Handicap Hurdle looks a tricky contest on paper but slight preference is for Novarov who ran a nice race at Fairyhouse to finish second to Dedigout. Sean McDermott is booked to ride the John O’Shea trained six year old with Cairdin and the mare Catleen looking like possible dangers.

Twelve runners will go to post for the concluding Kildare Post Flat Race and it looks like that the king of Irish bumpers Willie Mullins has an excellent chance with Morning Royalty. His son Patrick who recorded a nice double at the Kildare track yesterday takes the ride. The main dangers look to be the Philip Hobbs trained Village Vic and Tony Martin’s Ted Veale.

Punchestown Selections

4:50 The Tracey Shuffle

5:30 Tally Em Up each way

6:05 Voler La Vedette

6:40 Novarov each way

7:15 Morning Royalty
