Dundalk Preview and Selections

Irish racing action moves to Dundalk for an eight race card with the first off to post at Ireland’s All Weather track at 6 o clock.

The opening Ireland’s Call Race has attracted fourteen runners and it looks to be very competitive on paper. Cecil Ross’s Six Of Hearts struck form when winning a Group Three at the Curragh on Derby day and with the talented Sam James booked to ride, he should run another good race. Edward Lynam’s Duff and Ger Lyon’s The Reaper look to be the main dangers.

Aidan O’Brien saddles a newcomer called After The Storm in Division One of the Maiden for two year olds and no doubt this son of Dylan Thomas will be well primed, however Paul Deegan’s newcomer Caprella could be worth a second look with Willie Supple booked to ride.

Division Two looks a competitive race but the Ger Lyon’s trained Rogue Element can improve on his debut sixth and give Keegan Latham a well deserved winner. Pyrenean Music and He’s Our Music should all run good races.

The Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Star Appeal Stakes (Listed Race) looks very competitive on paper and Aidan O’Brien’s Vault looks set to dominate the betting, however Jessica Harrington’s filly Silver Sycamore can run a nice race following her win at Leopardstown last time out. Fran Berry takes the ride whilst Bible Back and Naseem Sea look like other major contenders.

Paul Flynn’s Mr Red Clubs ran a nice race last time out at The Curragh to finish a close seventh and he can improve from that run with Chris Hayes booked to ride, however Paul Deegan’s Le Rouge Alex looks a massive danger in the Sean O'Brien Slays Dragons Nursery Handicap.

Coral Cup winner Carlito Brigante makes his seasonal debut in the Celtic Rivals Handicap but Andrew Oliver’s Jazz Girl looks like she can run another big race following her win at Fairyhouse last time out. Gary Carroll takes the ride.

Gordon Elliott’s filly Iconic Sway could make a nice debut in the concluding fillies maiden with top jockey Declan McDonogh booked to ride, however David Wachman’s Livia’s Wake looks the one to beat.

Dundalk Preview and Selections

After a day of racing at Gowran Park, Dundalk hosts an eight race card on the all weather surface with the first off to post at 6:00.

The opening maiden looks a tricky contest and a horse that has been knocking on the door in maiden company is the Paul Flynn trained La Oliva. Chris Hayes is booked to ride but Jim Bolger’s newcomer Katevan might be the one to watch in the betting.

Jim Bolger’s Rigoletta should get her head in front in the fillies maiden having had many placed runs this season. She was second at Gowran Park last time out and she looks the one to beat if she takes to the poly track surface for the first time.

Jeangeorges did it nicely last time out at Dundalk and despite a rise in the weights and having to carry top weight, the five year old son of Noverre should take all the beating in division one of the bookings@dundalkstadium Handicap. Pat Martin’s Footprint should be noted with the notable booking of Johnny Murtagh.

Division two looks a tricky race but the Adrian McGuinness trained Secret Hero looks a valuable each way bet and no better man other than Johnny Murtagh is booked to ride. Just On Fire and Alpha And Omega shouldn’t be glanced at.

Judies Child is most likely go off favourite in the Derrinstown Apprentice Fillies Race but it’s a race that has some interesting each way value. Sovereign Secure wasn’t beaten too far at Fairyhouse last time out and with Joseph O’Brien booked to ride; she should run a cracker and also Dazzle Them for trainer Tim Doyle could also run into a place.

When you see an English raider over at Dundalk, they are always worth a few quid and in the www.dundalkstadium Handicap; Mark Johnson saddles Licence To Till. Willie Supple talks the ride. Do The Bossanova for the Bolger stable can run a big race following her win at Gowran Park last Saturday.

Ten runners make up the field for the Group Three Diamond Stakes and the John Oxx trained Zanughan is likely to go off favourite. Jessica Harrington’s Bob Le Beau won’t go down without fighting whilst Aidan O Brien’s two runners could be the ones to note. John Joseph Murphy saddles Northgate who will be trying to follow up his Down Royal win.

The concluding Dundalk on Facebook Handicap looks a tricky race. Apache Drums is probably the one to beat but Rusty Halo could run a nice race for the Paul Flynn team. Edward Lynam saddles Sparring Partner and his last run should be ignored in a Q.R Handicap. Ignore at your own peril.

Dundalk Selections

6:00 La Oliva each way

6:30 Rigoletta

7:00 Jeangeorges each way

7:30 Secret Hero each way

8:00 Sovereign Secure each way

8:30 Licence To Till each way

9:00 Bob Le Beau

9:25 Sparring Partner each way

Listowel Day Three Preview and Selections

Listowel Day Three Preview and Selections

Day three of the Listowel Harvest Festival kicks off at 2:25 with a seven race mixed card. I myself will be travelling down to see Boxer Beat run in the valuable Lartigue Handicap and despite the ground conditions against him, he should show his true form and run a big race at a nice price.

The opening maiden looks set to see the Aidan O’Brien trained Fort Sam Houston run another big race having been just been touched off by Hurricane Ridge at Killarney last time out. Seamie Heffernan takes the ride on the Ballydoyle two year old son of Dylan Thomas. Gerard Keane’s Captain Cullen looks the main danger.

Ballydoyle will be hoping to double up with Athens in the second maiden on the card but the Willie Mullins trained Fatcatinthehat made a nice debut at Galway last time out and with Willies nephew Danny taking the ride, the son of Authorised is sure to make a bold bid. Prunella Dobbs Zambezi Tiger should also be in the shake up with Pat Smullen booked to ride.

The Fillies Handicap has attracted twelve runners and conditions will favour Miranda’s Girl, however Galway Festival winner Good Shot Noreen will throw down a lively challenge in the Mulhern colours. Paul Cashman’s Extra Steps ran a nice race to finish second at Killarney last time out and should improve from the run with Joseph O’Brien booked to ride. Mamma Rosa and Kate Greenaway are also major contenders.

The Brandon Hotel handicap has attracted sixteen runners and it looks a very competitive affair. Ken Condon’s Smoky Cloud won nicely ay Laytown last week and should run another big race whilst Paul Deegan’s Beauty Express, Michael Mulvany’s One Of Three and Andrew Slattery’s Ucanchoose all hold chances.

The Kerry Petroleum Handicap Steeplechase has attracted eighteen runners and three reserves and Enda Bolger’s Pocket Reader is likely to dominate the market with the champion AP McCoy booked to ride. County Westmeath trainer Adrian Murray may have a small stable but he has seen his fair share of success and he saddles Leney Dow Jones who can improve on his second to Ahorsecalledmolly at Kilbeggan. Other interesting runners include D’s Trix for the Eric McNamara yard and Denis Hogan’s Cerveza Dinero on which Denis Hogan takes the ride himself.

The Lartigue Hurdle for four year olds looks a wide open contest and Pat Flynn’s Louisville Lip is most likely to head the betting market with the Paul Nolan trained Acapulco Gold. Gordon Elliott’s Bondage won three times on the flat but has he got the pace for hurdles? All will be revealed at 4:55 and wouldn’t it be great if Boxer Beat also featured.

The concluding maiden hurdle looks set to see Willie Mullins Capisci and the Shane Broderick trained Black Benny battle it out for favouritism but Boynagh Joy looks a solid each way bet following a nice second over hurdles at Down Royal last time out.

Listowel Selections

2:25 Fort Sam Houston

2:55 Fatcatinthehat

3:25 Mamma Rosa each way

3:55 One Of Three each way

4:25 Leney Dow Jones each way

4:55 Boxer Beat each way

5:25 Boynagh Joy each way

Listowel Day Two Preview and Selections

Day two of the Listowel Harvest Festival kicks off at 2:45 with a seven race mixed card in store but be warned its going to be a wet and windy afternoon of racing.

The opening Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden for two year olds has attracted thirteen runners and it looks like the Dermot Weld trained Swerve is most likely to go off favourite following a nice fourth on debut at The Curragh.  Willie McCreery’s Legal Peace was just headed at Sligo last time out and Johnny Murtagh is a notable booking. Strike Action looks the other main danger for the David Wachman yard and owner Michael O Leary but Legal Peace looks the one to have a few quid on.

The Jim Beecher Handicap has attracted thirteen runners. Paul Deegan’s Roscommon winner Darasal Wane will try defy top weight with Joseph O’Brien booked to claim a valuable three pounds. David Marnane knows how to train a horse for Listowel and his horse Rose Garnet looks a solid each way bet. Having finished seventh at Bellewstown last time out, the daughter of Invincible Spirit looks set to run a big race with Colm O’Donoghue booked to ride.

Hurricane Ridge won nicely at Killarney and is most likely set to go off favourite for Jessica Harrington and Fran berry in the EBF Nursery but he won’t have it all his own way as the Aidan O Brien trained Secretary Of State is sure to improve from his run at Killarney and make a bold bid under Joseph O’Brien. Ken Condon’s French Quebec could be the dark horse in the race with Johnny Murtagh booked to ride.

Paul Nolan’s Gala Dancer is after having two nice wins at Galway and Ballinrobe and looks set to run another big race in the John.F McGuire Novice Steeplechase. Eagles Pass will also be seeking a hat trick but an interesting runner is the Eoin Griffin trained St Devote who is getting weight to Eagles Pass. Part owned by Republic of Ireland footballers John O’Shea and Stephen Hunt; the son of Saint Des Saints is worth watching in the betting. Gordon Elliott’s Trendelenburg and Edward O’Grady’s Slieveardagh are others to note.

The I.T.B.A Fillies Novice Hurdle has attracted nine runners and Mullingar trainer Dot Love saddles the warm favourite Shadow Eile who won nicely at Galway last time out. Owned by Mullingar man Sean Reilly, the daughter of Beneficial looks the one to beat with Shay Barry taking the ride.  Jessica Harrington’s Meitheamh makes her seasonal reappearance and conditions will she is definitely worth a second look.

The Handicap Hurdle looks an open contest and is best watched for any market support. Leah Claire is well able to run on the flat and she looks a solid each way bet over hurdles. Bryan Cooper takes the ride.

The concluding Bank Of Ireland Flat Race looks set to be a battle between the Mullins. Margaret Mullins saddles Stormy Oscar who should get his head in front following two seconds and the name sake is suitable for the current conditions but the Willie Mullins newcomer Koko Lane might prove a massive danger with Willie’s son Patrick booked to ride.

Listowel Selections

2:45 Legal Peace each way

3:15 Rose Garnet each way

3:45 French Quebec

4:15 St Devote

4:45 Meitheamh each way

5:15 Leah Claire each way

Monday's Roscommon Preview and Selections

Monday, 05 September 2011 10:16

Roscommon Preview and Selections

Roscommon host an eight race mixed card with the first race due off at 4:05 and admission is only €5 and the bet of the day is to wrap up well and bring an umbrella.

The opening fillies maiden for two year olds looks a tricky contest but the Arthur Moore trained Regal Tie should be noted having finished third on her debut at Dundalk, Arthur rarely trains a horse for the flat and any market support should be noted. Fran Berry takes the ride. Jim Bolger’s Foolish Lady looks a big danger and if the Paul Flynn trained La Oliva handles the soft ground conditions, she could run a big race under Declan McDonogh having finished a close fourth at Dundalk last time out.

The Paul Deegan trained Darasal Wane followed Royal intruder home at Sligo last time out and the winner went on to win at Galway last week so the daughter of Captain Rio looks set to run a big race in division one of the Castlerea Handicap for three year olds. John Oxx’s Velesgo and Parc Aux Boules look the main dangers.

Division Two looks like a night mare of a race and is probably best watched. Jim Bolger’s Advenio may be the one that could put a few bad runs behind her.

The Fillies Handicap has attracted fourteen runners and you would have to be favouring course specialist Miranda’s Girl for Athlone trainer Tom Cleary. She will relish the bottomless conditions and with Ronan Whelan taking a valuable five pounds off her back; she looks a solid each way bet. Despite having to carry top weight Ultra Cool looks a huge danger for trainer Adrian McGuinness.

The Fillies maiden looks set to be a match between the Andrew Oliver trained Puzzled and the Aidan O Brien trained Sloane Street who both ran well last time out. Sloane Street ran a nice race to finish third at Galway last week. Seamie Heffernan takes the ride.

The fifth race sees action move to the jumps and the Ballyleague Pro-Am Handicap Hurdle looks an open race. Recent course winner Ballygill Gale will most likely justify favouritism. Michael Flannery’s Riotman looks set to barge his way through the opposition to follow up on his Kilbeggan win. Keith Clarke takes the ride. Recent course and distance winner Take A Shot looks set to make another bold bid under Declan Bates.

The Four Roads Mares Maiden Hurdle looks set to see the John Kiely, Galway bumper winner Blossom Gate go off the short price favourite but a horse that looks like and each way value bet is Madam Bovary who finish fourth to the Noel Meade trained Virgil Earp at Wexford in June. Despite been a good bit away from the winner, she might have improved and looks a solid each way bet for the Codd family.

Christy Roche’s Morning Ireland looks set to go off favourite in the concluding Frenchpark Pro-AM Flat Race for owner JP McManus but if the Tom Taaffe trained Alexandr Nevsky improves from his debut run and handles the ground; he should run a big race.

Roscommon Selections

4:05 La Oliva each way

4:35 Darasal Wane each way

5:05 Advenio each way

5:35 Ultra Cool each way

6:05 Sloane Street

So You Think set to face five rivals

So You Think will face five rivals in Saturday's Red Mills Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown Racecourse.

Aidan O'Brien's Aussie import has won three of his four starts in Europe, with his only defeat coming at the hands of the ill-fated Rewilding in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot and on Saturday will hope to add another European win at the Foxrock track.

Frankie Dettori travels over to Leopardstown to take the ride on Snow fairy who looks set to be his main rival. The Ed Dunlop filly was a late withdrawal in the Yorkshire Oaks and looks set to make a bold bid.

Aidan O Brien also saddles Roderic O Connor who will be ridden by his son Joseph and having disappointed in the Irish and French Derby, he may be a pacemaker.  Colm O’Donoghue takes the ride on his other stable mate Recital and hasn’t been seen since finishing fifth behind Pour Moi in the Epsom Derby.

Kevin Prendergast’s Dunboyne Express and the Dermot Weld trained Famous Name make up the remainder of the field.

Pat Smullen is booked to steer.

Canary Wharf ran a nice debut behind Aidan O Brien’s other runner Camelot at Leopardstown and will definitely have improved from the run and looks set to make a bold bid in the opening Donnelly’s Of Barna Maiden for two year olds.  David Wachman’s Outback and the Kevin Prendergast trained Freedom Reigns looks the main dangers. Colm O’Donoghue is booked to ride Canary Wharf.

Apprentice Daniel Benson claims a valuable seven pounds from his weight and if he gets a lead he will take all the beating. Jessica Harrington’s Fairywing looks the main danger and is most likely to go off favourite with Fran Berry booked to ride.

Aidan O Brien’s Wrote can follow up on his Cork maiden win last week when he takes on seven other rivals in Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Premier Nursery Handicap. Aidan’s son Joseph takes a valuable three pound off his top weight and he looks set to run another big race. Ger Lyon’s Greek Canyon looks the danger with Johnny Murtagh booked to ride.

Truly Genius has showed some morning market support and if back to form; he could run a big race under Sam James in the James P.Cunningham Handicap. Ger Lyon’s Joe Eile and Joanna Morgan’s Independent Girl look like valuable each way bets.

Noel Meade’s Virgil Earp has turned into a bit of a dual purpose horse and reverts back to the flat tonight in the apprentice handicap. Emmett McNamara takes the ride and having won the four year old hurdle at the festival in July, market support is probably best noted. Pat Flynn’s Louisville Lip looks set to run another big race with Joseph O Brien booked to ride.

Aidan O Brien’s Sloane Street looks set to make a bold bid in the concluding Renmore maiden but Dermot Weld’s Harangue looks the main threat.

Killarney Preview and Selections

Irish action moves to county Kerry this evening to the scenic and most beautiful racecourse in Ireland. The first of a seven race flat card is due off to post at 5:10 at Killarney.

The opening goracingkillarney.com maiden looks set to see the Ken Condon trained Charpoy head the market. Johnny Murtagh is booked to ride and having finished second at Dundalk on his last outing, he should go close however the Mick Halford trained filly Ondeafears looks a solid each way bet with Gary Carroll booked to ride. It was Gary’s birthday yesterday so maybe he can get a late birthday present.

The Robin Parke Memorial Handicap for three year olds has only attracted seven runners and it will be hard to find the winner. Aidan O Brien’s Ballinrobe winner Fairylike looks a lively contender with his son Joseph booked to ride. Leopardstown winner Words Of Wisdom for the Edward Lynam stable and the Paul Cashman trained Extra Steps also look set to run a big race. Ronan Whelan who is banging in the winners lately claims a valuable five pounds from Extra Steps.

The Ballydoyle team fired back into form with a double at Cork last night and it looks like Secretary Of State can make a bold bid under Joseph O Brien to claim the two year old nursery. The son of Danehill Dancer has had some nice runs under his belt and he looks set for another big run. David Wachman’s Money Spider and Dermot Weld’s Crimson Sunrise look the main dangers.

The feature race on the card is The Listed Vincent O Brien Ruby Stakes and this race has attracted eleven runners. Dermot Weld’s Galway winner Stunning View looks set to dominate the betting but he won’t have things his own way in the race. Ken Condon’s Marvada and Aidan O Brien’s Wild Wind look lively contenders as well as the Mick Halford trained Banna Boirche who looks set to run a big race at a nice price with Shane “Dusty” Foley booked to ride.

The Tracey Collins trained Landsdowne has been knocking on the door and has just left it a little late on his last few runs but with seven pound claimer Daniel Benson taking the weight down, he is sure to run another big race in The Tadgh Kelly Carpentry Handicap.

Jessica Harrington’s Why But Why should run a big race in The Tadgh Clifford Groundcare Handicap having been second on his last two outings.  Fran Berry takes the ride on the son of Whywhywhy. Edmond Kent’s Galway winner and runner up Lover’s Peace looks the main danger.

Tommy Stack’s Fountain Of Honour can run well in the fillies maiden with Wayne Lordan booked to ride. David Wachman’s Livia’s Wake and Aidan O Brien’s Sloane Street look the main rivals.

Cork Preview and Selections

Irish racing moves to the Mallow venue this evening with Cork staging an eight race flat card with the first off to post at 4:40. Admission into the races tonight is also free and it’s great to see this happening as racing is such an expensive sport.

The opening maiden for three year olds and upwards looks a competitive event. Edward Lynam’s Fred Fenster hasn’t been too far off the pace on his last three starts and tonight could be his night with Keegan Latham booked to ride. Aidan o Brien’s Ballroom and Willie McCreery’s Batchelor’s Star look the main dangers.

The David Wachman trained Limetree Lady was unlucky on her debut at Cork but tonight she can make up for this and take the two year old maiden. She will go off short priced and if you are looking for each way value, the Paul Deegan trained filly Dancing Sally looks worth an each way betting having made a nice debut to finish seventh at Naas.

The third race on the card is the www.corkracecourse.ie Handicap and it sees Brendan Duke’s Tipperary winner Roicead at the head of the market. Paul Deegan’s Moonreach won nicely at Dundalk and meets Jembatt who was second to him at Dundalk again today. Michael Mulvany’s Jembatt is getting six pounds from Moonreach today and with Gary Carroll booked to ride; the son of Captain Rio should run a big race.

John Oxx’s Cocozza is likely to dominate the market in the Mallow.ie race but might be better off apposed. Waterford trainer Pat Flynn saddles Worldly Wise for owner JP McManus and having been placed in his last four runs, the Namid gelding won’t go away too easy.

Wrote made a nice debut at Roscommon last Monday to finish third in a race that was won by the Paul Flynn trained Indigo River. Aidan O Brien’s colt has even an entry in the 2012 Epsom Derby so the son of High Chaparral will be sure to pounce at Cork this evening.

Pat Flynn’s Mamma Rosa looks set to make a bold bid in the Mount Hilary Race having finished fourth at The Curragh last time out. Stable jockey Danny Grant takes the ride. Kevin Condon’s Curl Cat and David Wachman’s Ajiaal look the main dangers that could upset Mamma Rosa.

The Adrian McGuinness trained Secret Hero can follow up his win at Bellewstown last weekend in the penultimate Follow Us On Twitter Handicap Division One for owner Sean Gallagher.

The Andrew Oliver trained Just On Fire might just bounce back in division two of the handicap as he seemed to run out of steam at Bellewstown the last time. Desert Ben, Cinnin Or and Bonnie Acclamation all look lively dangers.

5:10 Dancing Sally each way

5:40 Jembatt each way

6:10 Worldly Wise

York Ebor Festival – Day Two Preview and Selections

Thursday, 18 August 2011 08:55

York Ebor Festival – Preview and Selections Day Two

Yesterday proved quite an unsuccessful day at York with my two fancied runners not performing and getting beat but day two is another day.

The fillies will be out in force today at York as it is Ladies Day and the feature race is also for fillies; The Darley Yorkshire Oaks.

The action goes to post at 2:00 with a competitive six race card in store.

Richard Hannon and Richard Hughes team up in the opening race to saddle Crown Dependency who is set to justify favouritism and should run a big race; however this is a race that seems to have plenty of each way value. Gerfalcon and Bogart look like good each way bets.

The Jaguar Cars Lowther Stakes (Fillies' Group 2) has attracted eleven runners and looks set to be a thrilling race. Godolphin’s Gamilati is set to go off favourite with Frankie Dettori taking the ride, whilst David Wachman sends over Fire Lily and she might be a lively contender having bolted up at The Curragh last time. Wayne Lordan takes the ride. Best Terms for team Hannon is bidding for a four timer having completed a hat trick of wins at Royal Ascot; Richard Hughes mount looks a solid each way bet.

The Addleshaw Goddard Stakes (Handicap) has attracted eighteen runners and looks like a race that anything could win so it maybe best watched but if money comes for a horse called Harrison George, he may be worth an each way bet. Silvestre De Sousa has been in top form lately and his mount Smarty Socks for trainer David O Meara is worth a second look.

The feature race of the day is The Darley Yorkshire Oaks and with Snow fairy now a non runner, this is a hot fillies contest. Godolphin’s Blue Bunting and Sir Michael Stoute’s Crystal Capella are likely to be battling it out at the top of the market. Jim Bolger’s Banimpire won’t go down too easy and looks a lively contender whilst Aidan O Brien’s Wonder Of Wonders and Jessica Harrington’s Laughing Lashes are other dangers.

The Clive Cox trained Polly’s Mark could go close in The E.b.f. 'Selkirk' Galtres Stakes (Fillies' Listed) and with Richard Hughes booked to ride, this filly looks even more confident. She wasn’t too far off Banimpire at Cork and looks a solid each way bet. Sir Henry Cecil’s Wild Coco looks set to go off favourite.

Ralph Beckett’s Seaside Sizzler looks a valuable each way bet in the concluding two mile handicap. Having finished a close second at Goodwood, the Jim Crowley ridden mount should show up in the first few places.

Dont forget our Happy Hour from 11-12 today. We are going best industry price on Wild Coco in the 4:15 and also we are going 1/4 Places on all six races at York today.

York Selections

2:00 Bogart each way

2:30 Best Terms each way

3:05 Smarty socks each way

3:40 Banimpire

4:15 Polly’s Mark

4:50 Seaside Sizzler each way
